Muscat: Oman Science Festival is open for visitors after it opened under the auspices of Eng Said bin Hamoud al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, in the presence of Dr Madeeha bint Ahmed al Shaibaniyah, Minister of Education.
The festival aims to make pace with global trends based on the dissemination of science and technology, future changes and developments.
In its third edition, the Oman Science Festival aims to deliver science to students and community members in an easy and interactive way to inculcate creative thinking and encourage them to realise science’s importance in life.
Haitham al Furqani, the first innovation specialist in the Food Security Corner, said, “The festival is a non-profit festival, as it is not for marketing a product, but all participants work to highlight their work and innovations in terms of benefiting everyone, and the food security corner receives a crowd of those interested not only as a technology issue but as a vital topic and humanity. Also, where the festival contributed to highlighting the sectors due to the demand of visitors in its previous edition.”
Another corner presented Education which included the latest findings of the education sector and contains 20 participants from 20 different participating parties except in the private and government sectors. What distinguishes the corner is that it contains interactive programmes and targets of all ages except school students, parents or researchers,” said Ghanim al Saadi, Senior Scientific Innovation Specialist at the Ministry of Education.
Student projects and simulated environments in the field of cybersecurity in the cyber security corner. In addition, the festival will include a scientific exhibition, open theatres, interactive workshops, practical experiments, and panel discussions that promote dialogue among the participants, in addition to organising competitions that include different scientific disciplines.
The festival also witnessed the participation of the private sector, like PDO, which is also supporting the event. Visitors can be seen enjoying the planetarium with a series of scientific films, such as the hour of the sky, the forms of space, the dawn of the space age and others, shown throughout the festival.
The festival includes scientific discussions on important global issues such as climate change, cyber security and others. Its importance lies in the dynamism of the dialogue and solutions proposed, resulting from the expertise and experience of the presenters of the working papers.
In addition, the discussion sessions provide decision-makers and officials with the opportunity to view the latest developments in the topics presented and listen to the views of interested groups in society in a positive and stimulating environment. Among the most prominent topics of the discussion sessions include food security, cyber security, climate change and its effects, and astronomy and space sciences.
