Oman to Mark Arab Tourism Day Tomorrow

Muscat, The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, will celebrate Arab Tourism Day tomorrow (Friday). The Arab Tourism Day, which falls on 25 February every year, comes this year under the theme (Towards Sustainable Digital Tourism).

In light of the challenges faced by the tourism industry worldwide as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the efforts continue to recover the tourism industry through advanced and technological solutions for a quick recovery to face challenges and competition with global markets.

The total number of inbound visitors to the Sultanate of Oman during 2021 reached 652,000 visitors, as the number of the GCC visitors ranked first to stand at 293,125 visitors. The total revenues of hotels rated (3 – 5 stars) amounted to RO 102 million.

The number of guests in those hotels reached 1,200,000 until the end of December 2021, according to the latest data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism’s interest in digital transformation comes within the framework of keeping up with the permanent renewable revolution witnessed by modern communication technologies. The inevitability of keeping up with this pace is the main focus in the development of the tourism sector, its services, facilities and products. The tourism industry and travel trends are constantly evolving owing to technological innovations.

Accordingly, the ministry has provided an integrated system that allows investors to complete and clear their transactions electronically through the official tourism portal of the ministry. The content of the site is periodically updated so that it is comprehensive and caters to all requirements and inquiries. Care is taken to keep the site updated with adequate data and information, along with developing the technological infrastructure owned by the ministry in this regard.

The ‘Discover Oman’ website is an important addition to promoting and introducing the unique and diverse tourism potentials of the Sultanate of Oman. It mentions present offers and promotional campaigns in cooperation with partners in the sector, while giving the opportunity for users and followers to interact through this site and with the ministry’s social media accounts.
